The Council for Dance Education & Training (CDET) last year introduced a new mark of recognition for dance and musical theatre pre-vocational schools. It is called Registered School status and provides a high level of quality assurance for schools with the mark. It ensures that teachers are qualified or training to qualify with highly recognised teaching societies, all staff have contracts in place, are regularly appraised and are CRB checked, the school has in place and adheres to appropriate health and safety, equal opportunities, customer service and staff development policies, the school adheres to the Code of Professional Conduct for Teachers of Dance, holds adequate insurance and keeps formal accounts.
We are currently updating our procedures to fully meet all these requirements. This should be completed in approximately 2 months at which time we will apply for Registered School status. If successful we will be the first school in Tyne & Wear to achieve this prominent mark.
