In April 2007 for the first time we entered students into the singing and dancing sections of the annual competition, Festival4Stars. This is the biggest UK talent contest open to all ages and most of Prima's students reached the Regional Final! An excellent achievement considering we are not a regular 'Competition School' and this was our first time competing in a Festival.
In 2008 Charlotte (aged 15) reached the Regional Final in the Solo Dance section at Festival4Stars, Charlotte (aged 7) and Amber (aged 6) reached the Regional Final in the Duo Dance section and the mother of one of our students won the Regional Final in the Adult Singing Section!!
Clare Robson is also an adjudicator for Festival4Stars. She judged at the Manchester Heats in 2007 and the York heats in 2008.
Prima's formal dance troupe was formed in October 2007 and consists of 24 members in two groups, the 'Kitti-Katz', aged 6-8 and the 'Dancing Dolls' aged 8-15. They meet as a group on a weekly basis on Saturday mornings. The troupe is open to children aged 6+ who take Ballet classes with Prima, rehearsals cost £5 each and last 1 hour and 10 minutes. Group dance costumes are provided.
The events the troupe has and will be taking part in are as follows:
- June 2009: 'Performance of a Lifetime' in Liverpool Arena (TBC)
- September 2008: Music Festival in Sunderland (with SunFM)
- July 2008: Talent Quest competition in Durham
- July 2008: Washington Old Hall Demonstration
- June 2008: Festival 4 Stars competition in Liverpool
- June 2008: Festival 4 Stars competition in York
- May 2008: Washington Wetlands Centre demonstration
- April 2008: Festival 4 Stars competition in Gateshead
- January 2008: Charity performance at Sunderland Empire Theatre
- December 2007: Audition for Britain's Got Talent (ITV show)
Our cheerleaders also enter competitions once or twice a year and have done very well both locally and nationally.
